Uncut Diamonds – How to Identify These Precious Stones?

Uncut Diamonds – How to Identify These Precious Stones?

Uncut or Rough diamonds are the stones that haven’t passed through any treatment after getting extracted from earth surface. Diamonds that are available in jewelry shops have been cut to get a specific shape and become faceted. They also have been polished. On the flip side, uncut diamonds are unpolished and not cut. They haven’t been changed in any way just after mined.

How to Identify Uncut Diamonds?

Uncut diamonds look much like transparent stones, which are either tinted in brownish or yellowish color or colorless. A very small numbers of rough diamonds are colorless like the diamonds available in jewelry shops. Most of the natural uncut diamonds are tinted.  Hence, only a few of the white diamonds are valuable.  There are quite different methods to identify a genuine uncut diamond. However, the fact is that most of these diamonds are not the ones you think.

A lot of minerals from earth’s crust look like diamonds, with very common physical features. If you are not a gemologist or not working in an area where these stones are mined, you can never be able to determine whether a transparent stone is a diamond or not. Hence, using a portable diamond tester is the quickest and easiest way to identify an uncut diamond. This device passes the heat or energy through the stone to determine its heat or electrical conductivity. If you want to find out if a stone is a diamond but you don’t have such device, visit a jewelry shop and ask to check the stone.
